Bludger Ball

Bludger

A bludger is a small hard black ball which flies around a Quidditch pitch impartially trying to injure or distract the players. The bludgers are kept away by the beaters, meaning that the team with the better beaters has much less to fear from bludgers.

During a Quidditch match in Harry's second year, a bludger which had been tampered with by Dobby the house-elf sought out Harry alone, ignoring all the other players. This is a very typical behaviour for a bludger, but it only succeeded in breaking Harry's arm, and failed to stop him catching the elusive golden snitch.
