Harry Potter: The Chamber Of Secrets Movie
Well, the second movie's out on dvd now, with accompanying extras cd, and it's significantly better than the first.
The cast and crew both seem to have learned valuable lessons since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone emerged into the
cinematic limelight. Daniel Radcliffe's ability to solidly portray the character of Harry Potter has improved no end. The
previous standards of excellence among the supporting cast are upheld nicely. Letting down the side this time round is
Rupert Grint, as I don't recall Ron Weasley spending the whole of the second book with his face locked into a rictus mask
of abject terror. Very well expressed fear, no doubt, but such emotions do have more than two settings and it would have
been nice if he'd managed to rein it in a little. Technically at least as impressive as the first offering, the major scenes of
the second book are perhaps not as visually powerful as the ending of the first. After all, no matter how well presented
the giant snake is it's always going to be just a giant snake. Fawkes the phoenix on the other hand is seamlessly included,
a very nicely expressed myth. One thing I couldn't help but notice, and remark upon, is that Godric Gryffindor must
undoubtedly have been a very small man, to wield such a puny weapon as fell out of the sorting hat. Although magic can as
always explain anything away to nothing.
