HogwartsHogwarts - The world's premier school of witchcraft and wizardry

Hogwarts Castle. The ancient stone seat of learning. Information on the real architecture of where the different parts of the film were taken.

Hogwarts Castle

The home of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts castle has many incarnations. Born in the mind of J.K. Rowling, it is a place of awe and wonder and has no doubt spawned an imaginary castle in the mind of every Harry Potter reader. Almost impossible to map, due to the nebulous and nefarious qualities of many of its rooms and corridors, Hogwarts has nevertheless been given some solid reality in the Harry Potter films and games, the scenery in both exhibits an eerie consistency.

The real world architecture which has given Hogwarts its most solid form yet was found in a number of locations, from Alnwick castle, home of the Duke of Northumberland to the Bodleian Library and Great Hall at Oxford University, as well as at Gloucester Cathedral.
