Percy Weasley. Ron's blindly ambitious elder brother

Percy Weasley

Percy Weasley is perhaps the least likeable of all the Weasleys, he's very prim, very proper, very law abiding. Since leaving school at the end of Harry and Ron's third year, Percy has been working for the Ministry of Magic in various capacities. During the fourth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Percy was working under Mr Crouch at the Department of International Magical Co-operation. In the course of the Triwizard Tournament it became apparent that Mr Crouch was under the control of Lord Voldemort and Crouch's son was impersonating Alastor Moody, the temporary Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Percy ended up the subject of an inquiry as to how he had managed not to notice Crouch's encroaching insanity, which the Ministry decided was the cause of his behaviour, rather than a Voldemort whose return they had not yet admitted.

At the start of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix however, Percy has been promoted to junior undersecretary to the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge. This strikes a lot of the Order as strange, since Percy should have been in disgrace over the Crouch business. Arthur Weasley went so far as to tell Percy he was only given the job to act as Fudge's spy within the Weasley family, avowed supporters of Dumbledore all. Percy is now persona non grata within the Order and his own family. It is to be hoped that now the fact of Voldemort's return is known and undeniable Percy will see sense and return to the family fold.
